death spasms of the chemical Vav by Rose Muller
Hear me smattered ogre torn down in mud
I give you truth and justice, if only you seek it.
“Tzedek tzedek tar-dôf” I am told by Deuteronomy
And you should listen, even if you don’t speak Hebrew.
Things to absorb: I watch with unseeing eyes,
marveled and flabbergasted,
As Adam pulls the truth through Gabriel’s feathers.
Muhammad spills it with his tears into Ai’sha’s bosom.
“My eyes sleep while my heart is fully awake.”
I cannot help but be inspired. Can you?
Religion seems a convenience of those not willing to seek their own answers
Maybe I should be a prophet then, a chosen child of God...the Gods.
Maybe I could be a witch if I gave out enough ‘magic potions’ and played more with my tarot cards.
So then there is hope for you too, rising from the ashes
A tzav, a turtle becomes the crocodile and rules
If you open your mouth and gurgle or croak
Hebrew or Arabic. Arabic is like a death spasm in the night
shrouding me as I shiver. Cover my eyes as I fall asleep
into Al Nisa, the fourth Surah. I am dreaming of this
and it surprises me...
Fear Allah, through Whom
Ye demand your mutual (rights)
An (reverence) the wombs
(That bore you): for Allah
Ever watches over you. (Abdullah Yusuf ‘Ali, Surah 4:1)
Bear reverence to the suckling babe
and flee in terror when they start screaming
Motherhood is an arduous task, which I do not wish to undertake.
I admire the mother, my mother all mothers
But it is not my path. What is yours?
You can choose! So choose.
